May 8, 2012 Протестна демонстрация на гражданско движение "Варна диша"

На 9 май в 18 ч. в гр. Варна ще се проведе протестна демонстрация на гражданското движение "Варна диша"срещу плановете на общината за застрояване на голяма част от градската Морска градина с частни сгради под претекст "реституция". Българското правителство на ГЕРБ за съжаление подпомага този процес на ограбване на град Варна от местната олигархия като прехвърли публичната държавна собственост върху голяма част от парка (местност"Салтанат" - както я наричат наточилите се за приватизация общинари) в общинска собственост - т.е. правителството възлага на вълка да пази осторожно стадото агнета. Това поредно безобразие насочено срещу обществения интерес е най-голямата "заменка" от типа "кон за кокоша", която български олигарси и техните слуги правят с помощта на изпълнителната власт. Когато Бойко Борисов беше в опозиция, той протестирапе срещу "заменките" на тройната коалиция. Защо днес той позволява и легализира тази безпрецедентно арогантна "заменка" на Морската градина - собственост на половин милион варненци и 7 милиона българи превръщайки я в частна собственост на местни и софийски мутри?

March 19,2012 IRIS presents in Belgrade its latest annual study on democracy and EU integration in the Western Balkans

IRIS presented on Friday, 16 March, in Belgrade its latest annual study, The Western Balkans in 2010/11: Departures in Democratisation and European Integration in Europe’s Southeast (the study is available here). The event, hosted by the Balkan Trust for Democracy (a programme of the German Marshall Fund of the United States), included a presentation of the study’s main findings by IRIS’s Dr. Ognyan Minchev, Stefan Ralchev and Goran Stojkovski and a lively discussion involving representatives of the local policy community, government, EU ambassadors and journalists. A special guest from Washington DC was the GMF Senior Director for Foreign Policy and Civil Society S. Enders Wimbush. Read more here


March 7, 2012 IRIS presents at Sofia University its latest annual study on Western Balkans democracy and EU integration processes

On Wednesday, 7 March, IRIS presented at Sofia University its latest annual study, The Western Balkans in 2010/11: Departures in Democratisation and European Integration in Europe’s Southeast (the study is available here). The event, part of a project supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy, was attended by academics, policy analysts, students, diplomats and journalists. The study’s main findings were presented by IRIS’s Dr. Ognyan Minchev, Stefan Ralchev and Goran Stojkovski, after which a discussion followed. Some of the conclusions at which the participants arrived were that interethnic relations continue to play an important part in the Balkans and that individual Balkan EU member states (such as Bulgaria, Slovenia and, soon, Croatia) should get more involved with the region on its EU path

IRIS has completed its second annual study on developments in the Western Balkans in the areas of democracy and European integration. The study, The Western Balkans in 2010/11: Departures in Democratisation and European Integration in Europe's Southeast, comprises analysis of general trends and individual country investigations of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and focuses on the period roughly from October 2010 to January 2012. January 19,2012 IRIS's Executive Director Ognyan Minchev criticises energy policies of outgoing Bulgarian President Parvanov
IRIS's Executive Director Dr. Ognyan Minchev made a recapitulation of the ending tenure of Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov. In an interview for the Bulgarian National Television, he sharply criticised Parvanov's energy policies and especially his support for the Belene nuclear power plant project. Dr. Ognyan Minchev gave an interview to Bloomberg agency on Sept. 17 focused on the issues of Belene nuclear power plant project. The major obstacles to the project and the concerns of Bulgarian public of a potential harm on the national interest with the construction of the Belene power plant were defined in detail in the interview with the Bloomberg representative Ms. Bauerova.
